What is Webcasting?
Webcasting is a technology to broadcast audio and video over
the internet to large numbers of people simultaneously, as the event
is happening. Unlike teleconferencing or other current video streaming
solutions, it does not require the viewer to have any special equipment
or know-how, beyond a normal computer and standard internet access. The
quality of the resulting video can adjust to be compatible with low-bandwidth,
dial-up style internet connections, all the way up to high-speed, broadband
connections that are capable of carrying full motion, high-quality images
and audio.

How does it work?
Camera operators on-site relay the live video over a highspeed internet
connection to an off-site re-broadcasting station which then serves
a copy of the live feed to viewers via a protected webpage.
How do we get an internet connection on-site?
If we have access to landline broadband connectivity near the event location,
we will use that. This saves money and time. If no high-speed
internet access is available, we make use of vtal satellite technology,
which is a moderately sized dish mounted on a van. Parked within
200 feet of the event site, we use enterprise-grade WIFI technology to
communicate from the uplink point to the actual event site. The
on-site internet connection serves only to relay the live video out to
an offsite ‘replication server’ which then distributes as
many copies of the broadcast as are needed to viewers on the web.
